1 1/2 lb. pound cake
1/2 pint whipping cream
6-7 eggs, separated
12 oz. semi-sweet baking chocolate
sliced bananas
4 tblsp. hot water
4 tblsp. sugar
2 tsp. rum
Melt the chocolate in a double boiler. When it's melted, add the
hot water and sugar. Then add the beaten egg yolks.
When this mixture thickens a bit, remove it from the flame and
beat it a little. Let it cool, then add the rum.
Beat the egg whites until stiff and add to the chocolate mixture.
It will be pretty soupy.
Slice the pound cake and put a layer of cake on the bottom of a
spring-form pan. Add half the chocolate sauce, then a layer of
sliced bananas, then another layer of pound cake, chocolate, and
bananas.
Chill the cake overnight. Before serving, cover it with whipped
cream and chocolate shavings.
Editor's note: You can tell from the uncooked eggs that
this is not a new recipe! (Besides...who has an "ice box" these
days?)
